Delta Airlines Ticket Cancellation, Refund Policy, and Customer Review

Delta is in one of the leaders of the airline industry. It is serving various flights to India and people used to travel with Delta Airline for a wonderful journey and no doubt Delta Airlines is meeting their expectations too.

Traveling with airlines can be expensive due to flight tickets, baggage, and other facilities. Some of the travel expense can be limited in some ways.

Basically, people chose to go with direct flights to India but those are a little bit expensive than the connecting flights. Sometimes you may suffer the hassle of delay and ticket cancellation. At that moment a passenger is entitled to a refund depending on the situation.

Here we have written the basic rules and policies of Delta Airlines which you must know:

Delta Airlines Cancellation Policy:

The Cancellation and refund procedure of Delta Airlines depend on the type of ticket you have purchased. There are refundable and non-refundable tickets.

  • For charge-free cancellation of the ticket, cancel within 24 hours of booking a flight. Within 24 hours of cancelation, there will be no penalty on the passenger.
  • If you have booked a non-refundable ticket and it has been over than 24 hours then you need to pay the penalty fee.
  • After 24 hours, an economy class cancellation is not permitted.

Cancellation charges with Delta: Depending on the itinerary the cancellation charges starts from $200.

Cancellation: If the airline ticket is booked directly through Delta Airlines then you have the right to cancel the flight. Following we have mentioned the steps for canceling a ticket.

For Refundable Tickets:

  • On the website of Delta Find Your Trip and Log In.
  • Select the trip you want to cancel.
  • Select ‘Cancel Flight’ button and follow the steps.
  • Then receive a full refund, i.e automatically issued in the original form of payment.

For Non-Refundable Tickets:

  • On the website of Delta Find Your Trip and Log In.
  • Select the trip you need to cancel.
  • Select ‘Cancel Flight’ button and follow the steps.

Flight Delay:

Sometimes a flight may get delayed due to some issues. It may be a technical fault, weather condition or any other reason. The airline has its responsibilities towards the passenger during the time of delay.

The airline is responsible to provide the full information if delay or cancellations occur within 30 minutes. They will aware you about the status of a flight by making announcements in the boarding gate area. If the delay is due to weather or natural disaster then the airline is not going to pay any refund.

  1. If a flight is canceled by airline then you can ask for the refund.
  2. If flights are canceled or delayed more than 90 minutes
  3. About 90 minute or more delay resulting in miss-connection then for the unused portion of the ticket a passenger can ask for the refund.
  4. If the passenger does not request for the refund then the airline has to transfer the passenger to nest flight.
  5. In the case of a tarmac delay, the airline will provide the passengers with food, water, and medical attention.

Further, the announcements are made through the following ways:

  • Boarding Gate Area via (GIDS) Gate Information Display screens.
  • Flight Information Display Screen
  • Official website of Delta Airlines

Ticket Refund:

After a refund request is made you can check the refund status. Either call them directly or check on the Delta’s website.

A passenger can ask for the refund in the following ways:

  • Credit Card: The refunded payment will be transferred to the credit card account by which you have paid for the ticket. It will take around 7 business days to complete.
  • Card/ Cash: Payment done with cash or cards will be refunded to the person whose name is mentioned on the ticket and the process will take around 20 days to complete.
  • For international refunds, it will take more time than usual.

We were booked on a West Jet flight from Toronto to New York; our flight was cancelled and the best we could get after multiple phone calls to West Jet was arriving at 4pm the next day going through Atlanta on Delta flights.

We are so ecstatic that this was the airline we were switched to and that we were diverted through Atlanta. Every single staff member was understanding of the pressure we felt to get to New York in time to see our Broadway show. I don’t know if Delta will read this but Matilda at gate T3 on August 23 for the 130pm flight to New York deserves recognition.

When we approached her to get information about our now delayed 230pm flight she knew we wouldn’t make it in time for our show so she sent us to customer service where they put us as a priority on the stand by list for the 130pm flight which was on time no questions asked.

When we got called to get our seats Matilda recognized us and celebrated with us that we were going to make our show. We were glad to have any seat but we were seated in economy plus (it feels like this was a gift from Matilda). When we left Toronto we felt defeated that we had lost a day and a half of our trip and getting to our Broadway show wasn’t guaranteed not to mention we were met with horrible customer service. Delta truly saved our trip!

Check in agent Florence (did not get last name) went above and beyond for myself and the 4 boys I was traveling with… She was so polite, friendly and offered a smile to calm a very frustrated morning. Left after paying for luggage with a smile and laughing. Wish I would have seen her last name. I hope she gets to see this and know she was appreciated and thank you!
