Omicron Scare: Canada Advises Citizens To Avoid Non-Essential Travel Abroad!

With the rising number of cases of the Covid 19 Omicron variant, many countries have started advising their citizens to avoid non-essential international travel. Recently, Canada has issued an advisory for its citizens which suggests avoiding international travel during the Christmas holidays.

The Canadian Health Minister, Jean-Yves Duclos said during a news conference, “Our government is officially advising Canadians to avoid non-essential travel outside Canada.

Those who are planning to travel, I say very clearly: Now is not the time to travel. The rapid spread of the Covid variant on the global scale makes us fear the worst.

Traveling Canadians could contract the virus or get stranded abroad.”

To prevent the virus from spreading further, testing of all travelers at airports will be increased and more precautionary measures will be taken in the coming days.

These advisory guidelines will be reviewed in four weeks and if required these will be extended along with restrictions.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held an emergency meeting with province leaders and proposed closing the border which was rejected by all provincial leaders.

The World Health Organisation has termed Omicron as a variant of concern and cases are multiplying at breakneck speeds.

Keeping all these things in mind, countries are trying their best to contain the virus and advising citizens to avoid non essential travel abroad.
