Indira Gandhi International Airport serves as the major international aviation hub of India in Delhi. The airport has an IATA code DEL and ICAO: VIDP spread over an area of 5,106 acres. It is situated 15 km south-west of the New Delhi railway station and 16 km) from Delhi city center. In terms of passenger traffic, it is the busiest airport in India handling nearly 70 million passengers and further, the expansion program is still in work to increase the airport’s capacity to handle 100 million passengers by 2030. Also, for Airbus A320 aircraft, it is the world’s busiest airport too.

Terminal InformationIndira Gandhi International Airport has three active scheduled passenger terminals, a dedicated Hajj terminal, and a cargo terminal.

Terminal 1: Most of the low-cost carriers SUCH as IndiGo and SpiceJet operate at Terminal 1. To increase the passenger handling capacity work is in process for expansion of the terminal. Also, there are many parts of the terminal named Terminal 1-A (closed now), Terminal 1-C (domestic arrivals), and Terminal 1-D (domestic departure).

Terminal 2: Until July 2010, Terminal 2 was used for International flights and then it was shifted to T3 and GoAir, SpiceJet and Indigo used to operate its daily flights from this terminal.

Terminal 3: Terminal 3 is a two-tier building spread over an area of 20 acres. The lower floor of the terminal consists of the arrivals area, and the upper floor consists of a departures area. It includes 168 check-in counters, 78 aerobridges, 54 parking bays, and 95 immigration counters. This terminal is mainly for international flights some of the operating Indian carriers at this terminal are Air India, Indigo, SpiceJet, GoAir and Vistara.

Cargo Terminal: There is a separate cargo terminal located at 1 km from T3 which consists of separate brownfield and greenfield cargo terminals.

Operating Airlines: Air Canada, Air China, Air France, Air India, Bhutan Airlines, Emirates, GoAir, IndiGo, KLM, SpiceJet, Virgin Atlantic, Cathay Pacific, and Vistara.

Destinations Served: Dubai, Hong-Kong, Doha, Bangkok, Hyderabad, Frankfurt, London-Heathrow, Chennai, and many more.

  • Hotel Delhi Aerocity: The hotel is near terminal 3.

FAQ:-

How early I need to reach at the airport before the flight?

You should arrive 90 minutes prior to departure if flying on domestic flights otherwise you must reach 3 hours prior to departure for your international flights.

Is there any waiting room at IGI Airport?

Yes, there is a visitor’s lounge that can be accessed by the passengers holding a valid ticket to travel within the next 24 hours. It is located at T3 accessed through Gate 1 and Gate 8.

Can I smoke at IGI Airport Delhi?

Yes, there are dedicated smoking lounges in all terminals at Indira Gandhi International Airport. But, Smoking in any other area is strictly prohibited.
